The identification and development of a possible material, requires various stages of study and experimentation. Raff’s studio explores into the various aspects of the material.
Algae is a fast regrowing resource, and recently gaining exposure due to its multiple uses and potential. The inspiration for this project is algae and material base for a compost-able bio-polymer. Various attempts are made, using a gelling extract agar, from different types of red algae. Natural dyes, called phycocyanin are extracted from micro-algae.
Raff’s experiments are constantly evolving the field of textile design with sustainable options right from the ocean.
