Pin-up Houses design houses that are easy to build as well as easy on the planet. Their latest work reflects Japanese traditions and has been designed as a space for meditation.
The Japanese Tea House by Pin-Up Houses is based on the Japanese Zen tradition and has already been built in several parts of the world. Built by Andrew in New Zealand, this Tea House is nestled in nature and provides a great space for meditation. 76-year-old Andrew is a psychologist, with no previous experience in construction.
Pin-Up Houses have strictly adhered to the principles of the traditional Japanese tea house, while Andrew kept in mind the local building regulations while building it. Pin-Up Houses have drawn inspiration from various sources and studied about Chashitsu, a space designed to be used for tea ceremony (chanoyu) gatherings in Japan. Tatami, wooden foundations, and other elements that are a part of the traditional design are used as well.
