Delhi-based interior and product design studio Daera has joined forces with Cancelled Plans, a fashion brand founded in 2018 by the architect Mallika Reddy. Their collaboration unveils a remarkable collection that breathes life into discarded materials, drawing inspiration from the pulse of local streets and tranquil water bodies.
The roots of this partnership stems from the enduring friendship between Mallika and Jannat, forged during their university days at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. In their shared pursuit of crafting meaningful pieces with a sustainable ethos, Sharon and Jannat, the founders of Daera, have teamed up with Mallika to bring their vision to life.
Through innovative experimentation with abandoned materials, they have designed a unique furniture collection, infused with the spirit of the Bauhaus era. These furniture pieces, characterized by their elegant, linear silhouettes, allow the fabric itself to shine, resulting in a distinctive and minimalist collection.
In a bid to champion the circular economy while adding a touch of style, everyday items have been meticulously crafted from materials that were once destined for landfills or oceans. Non-hazardous waste materials have been sourced from local factories and ingeniously transformed into design elements, seamlessly blended with traditional materials to create functional and one-of-a-kind objects. This resourceful approach not only maximizes the utility and versatility of these materials but also embarks on an exploratory journey, appearing deceptively simple yet delving deep into the intricate interplay of craftsmanship and innovation.
The ‘Daera x Cancelled Plans’ collection aspires to align with the future trends in spatial design, boldly avoiding repetition and embracing creativity. With a commitment to sustainability and a nod to the ever-evolving design landscape, this collaboration aims to redefine the boundaries of possibility in the world of furniture and functional art.
